Hip Hip Hooray!!

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 26, 2011, 6:56 AM
We have two wonderful winners of the "Dream World" contest at :iconmanip-contest:

One of the prizes was a feature and an interview. Please read and enjoy

Winner of the Beginner category:

  :iconrebeccalongart:

Here are a few more of her wonderful work:

BarnCatt said the following:

1. How do you feel about winning this contest?
I was very excited to read the news that I had won this contest.  I have never won a contest in this group before so I wasn't expecting a win.  I'm very pleased that my artwork has been selected out of all of the entries from all of the great artists that this group has.
2. How did you come up with this entry?
I was coming back to feed the horses one morning and thinking about how I don't like living here so much and how I wished I could have a different world to go to.  I was also regretting not having manipulated as much lately, having been away the whole summer.  And then I figured out that I could totally manip my own planet, and it would fit the theme of this contest.  It was certainly an idea that popped into my head pretty much fully formed.
4. How long have you been maniping?
I believe I started around March of 2010, and found dA when I was looking for a stock resource.  A few months later I joined dA.  It took be a bit before I started to participate in activities and interact with the community, but it's been a wonderful source of inspiration.
5. What is your favorite kind of manip?
I don't really have a firm favorite type of manip.  I enjoy any manip that inspires me or make me think.  I do enjoy fantasy and horse manips though.
6. Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a 16 year old girl who lives in North Carolina, USA.  I am homeschooled, but am also attending community college with the plan of earning credits to transfer to a larger university in a couple of years.  I'm considering majoring in graphic design, but I'm not sure yet.  For the past few years I have had a business selling jewelry that I design.  I try to put profits from this towards my horse.  I've been riding ever since I was seven and in January I purchased a horse named Golly Gee.  I haven't competed at all this year, but in the past Golly and I have shown dressage.  I hope to start competing again soon and also learn eventing with him.  Erm..anything else interesting about me?  I'm vegan and I have a passion for tie-dye.
7. What got you into doing manips?
I played on a horse SIM game and some of the players would create custom graphics for their horses.    I wanted to try it too so I did!  I've also always been interested in techniques used in designing magazines and ads.  I started out with GIMP and then eventually got a copy of cs5 which is the program I use now.  Last winter I also got a  tablet, albeit a cheapy knock off brand one.
8. Anything else you would like to share?
Just that I'm really pleased with this and that this group has meant so much to me over the past year or how ever long it's been.  All of the help and support I've gotten through this community means so much to me (that means especially you Donna!)

:sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun::sun:

Winner of our Advance category:

  :iconmeropa:

Here are a few more of her wonderful work:

Meropa said the following:

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much!! :glomp: :eager: That's amazing! I'll do my best to answer those questions :aww:

1. How do you feel about winning this contest?
It feels AMAZING. I can't even describe how happy this made me. Seeing the note where you notify me about my achievement got me literally out of my chair jumping up and down! Thank you for that!
2. How did you come up with this entry?
Well, I think it all just came into place. Only looking for the right stocks took me forefer, after that was the fun part. To be honest, I wasn't sure what I wanted it to look like when it's finished, I just knew that I wanted a peaceful looking landscape, so I just went with the flow.
4. How long have you been maniping?
I believe I started when I was 12, so that's about four years. It was the most primitive kind of manipulation, of course. :) I began with changing colour tones, hues, then adding more objects to the picture. It took me a long time before I learned how to blend it all together so it looks as natural as possible.
5. What is your favorite kind of manip?
I don't think it matters what's on the picture, more important is that it gives you a feeling. But to answer the question, I don't have a favourite kind of manip. It all depends on the artwork itself.
6. Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a sixteen years old girl from Bulgaria. I just came back this summer from a year long scholarship program in the United States that really got me liking this country as a place to start my career (which I am still not sure about). I am *slightly* indecisive, as you just found from the last sentence, but also really ambitious. Apart from my love for Photoshop I also enjoy photography and I'd like to get into digital drawing as well (after I buy my first tablet).
7. What got you into doing manips?
DeviantART, definitely! Other people's works have always been inspiration to me. I just wanted to learn how to do things the artists out here were doing.
8. Anything else you would like to share?
I want to give one HUGE thanks to the organizors of the contest and also to the people who have been sticking with me, following my works and commenting. I wouldn't be here without you! So thank you!

Thank you and feature

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 21, 2011, 7:07 AM
OMGosh!!!! I can't believe how wonderful you are. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

This is such a wonderful gift you have given me. As some of you know my husband and I are having major financial problems. Because of the rescission, or in my words depression, our nursery has taken a huge tumble. We have lost our home to fore closer so I have been working on finding us another place for us to live. We rely heavenly on our florists. Our main business is supplying the florist with quality plants. We went from having over 300 florists down to about 30 and more of them are going out of business or trying to sell. I'm now working on planting spring plants for spring. I hope we will be able to sell them.

I'm taking a day off today to thank you all for such lovely gifts. You can not believe how dear to my heart each and every one of you are to me. As I'm looking at the wonderful pictures tears are flowing down my cheeks. I'm having a hard time typing so please forgive any typing errors.

I want to show you my love back. This is for you all my dear ones  :tighthug:

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

250 points - light. Is the light source seen and does the light fall according to that light source.

250 points - shadows. According to the light source, does the shadows fall correctly.

250 points - cutting. How well the cutting was done and how well it blends.

250 points - blending. Does the entire piece blend together. In other words does everything looks like it belongs. We have worked very hard on learning this.

250 points - over all flow. Eye movement is very important. Look to see if the eyes continue to flow around the piece or do the eyes fall off the page.

250 points - creativity. I love to see something different. Be creative. Look in side your imagination and come up with what you dream a wonderful world would look like.

Happy Easter and Feature

Journal Entry: Sun Apr 24, 2011, 8:05 AM
Happy Easter all my dears.

May God bless each and everyone of you :sun:

I was tagged a week ago by :iconbrandrificus:  :iconspydergenie: and :iconkimsol: I had posted it but for some reason DA farted and lost all of my work. So now that I have a little time I thought I would try it again. I will not go by the rules and tag 10 more of my friends. They all have gotten tagged as many times as me if not more.

1. My name is Donna (for those who don't know) and I am 52 years young. (Oh by the way my birthday is June 2. hahahaha).

2. I have been married to my ultimate best friend for 20 years. We have been together for 26 years.

3. We have two wonderful sons who are the apple of my eye. Jon our oldest is going to the University of the Pacific. He is just finishing his first year. Nick my baby is finishing up his freshman year in high school.

4. I have an adopted DA daughter :iconrebeccalongart: whom I love dearly.

5. We have currently five outstanding dogs of whom we can't get enough of. I had two wonderful cats that recently passed from old age.

6. My dear husband and I own our own nursery business. We are currently growing indoor houseplants and topiary. We had a very hard winter and lost about 85% of our houseplants.

7. We live in the worst city to live in called Modesto. It was rated the number one worst city to live in the second time in a row. (that is so sad)

8. I have done all kinds of art from watercolor, oil, ceramic etc... but my all time favorite art is manipulations. (I think is the hardest art to learn so far)

9. We are going to have a BBQ if it doesn't rain for Easter.

10. Sad. My sons are to old for Easter Egg hunts. :(

Here is a feature of some Easter art by my dear friends:

We had a wonderful challenge from :iconmanip-contest: on the "Inspired by Literature". The participants were to take this poem Shade Enough For TwoHigh upon this hilltop,
a single tree does stand,
spreading shade enough for two,
across a velvety grassy land.
With our future ahead of us,
my sweet Michael and me,
would sit and make our plans,
in the shade for two of this tree.
When Michael received news,
ordering him to a senseless war,
he promised to make it back alive,
and not leave me wanting more.
I still come to this hilltop,
and I wail out in misery,
with a baby not yet due,
and Michael buried under me.
Plans of naught had been made,
where this single tree does stand,
spreading shade enough for two,
across a now bleak and barren land.
A war which wasn't a war,
by our wonderful artist :iconapatchworkproduction:

We also had a challenge from :iconmanip-contest: on the "Member's Challenge". The participants were to take this challenge from :icongiseekant: take two giantress and have them invade a city.
